Beta Progress: Two Platforms, 110 Courses, and What Comes Next

It’s been a busy few weeks. Here’s where FretsNotes stands and where we’re headed.

Two Platforms, One Engine

FretsNotes now runs on both iOS and Android. Both apps share the same Rust engine, the same curriculum, and the same adaptive practice logic. If you sign in with Google on both devices, your progress syncs automatically.

The iOS app is available through TestFlight. The Android app is on Google Play in beta. Both are free during the beta period.

The Curriculum Today

We currently have over 110 courses organized across eight series:

  • Foundations — 24 courses covering open position (frets 0-5)
  • Ear Training I — 6 courses for pitch recognition
  • Accidentals — 10 courses for sharps and flats
  • Position II — 22 courses for frets 2-9
  • Intervals — 8 courses for interval recognition
  • Position III — 22 courses for frets 4-12
  • Chromatic Mastery — 10 courses integrating all 12 pitch classes
  • Sight-Reading — 8 courses for real-time reading and playing

Plus an intro course that covers guitar and staff notation fundamentals.

The curriculum is live and actively evolving. We’re refining courses based on beta tester feedback, adjusting difficulty curves, and adding content. The structure is stable — if you start learning now, your progress will carry forward as we improve things.

16 Exercise Modes

We shipped all 16 exercise modes across four categories: staff reading, fretboard knowledge, ear training, and intervals. The newest additions — melodic contour, enharmonic match, staff/ear intervals, and sight-reading — round out the experience beyond basic note identification.

Beta Feedback

We added an in-app feedback system so beta testers can report issues or suggestions directly from any course. Feedback goes straight to our admin dashboard with device info and context, making it easy to reproduce and fix problems quickly.

What’s Next

Web app — The Rust engine compiles to WASM, and we’re building a React-based web app that runs the same exercises in the browser. No install required, same progress sync.

Curriculum refinements — We’re actively testing and improving course content based on how beta testers perform. Some courses need more introduction, others need tighter gates.

More content — Additional series and exercise variations are in the pipeline as we expand the curriculum’s scope.

If you haven’t tried FretsNotes yet, request early access. We’d love your feedback.
